Introduction to computer hardware – Part 7

Computer hardware is all the things you can see and touch such as the monitor, the mouse, the keyboard and the computer box. The motherboard is the computer main component and it’s where all the components are connected to. It’s the biggest piece of hardware you see everytime you open your computer. Most of the times the motherboard is green but sometimes it can be blue, red, yelloe, black, purple and pink. Yep, marketeers are very creative. Next we got the processor. This is where all the information is processed. When you press a key on your keyboard it sends a signal to the processor and the processor makes the right character appear on the screen. Now almost all processors sold have more than one processor in the same chip. The latest ones have up to four processors. WOW! That makes computers 4 times faster and also generate a lot of heat too. The latest fans are so big the one day I think our computers can replace air turbines in an emmergency. We can never know. Tech is evolving too fast. LOL. Now let’s check the RAM. This piece of hardware is one the tool the processor uses to work. A computer without enough RAM will not work properly and will crash most of the times. Adding at least 2 GB of RAM is absolutely essencial for the computer to work properly. The hard disk is the place where you put all the information. Google had probably millions of hard disks to store a copy of all the webpages of the web. WOW that must be an entire building of hard disks! The sound card is usually integrated on the motherboard. It’s what plays the MP3 you like so much. This card has not improved that much over the time. People don’t care that much about music. For the graphic card things are diferent. It processes all the images you see on the screen and it generates almost as much heat as the processor does. The latest graphic cards now use two slots in the computer box. The extra slot used is for the cooler because it’s very big. The DVD Rom is where you put the DVDs playing. DVD is going to be obsolete soon now that we have the new Blu Ray. The monitor is where you see all the graphics
