Connected to the WWW

Being connected to the world wide web is like being connected to the world. The internet is such a globalized technology that it is now easier for people to gain access to the wonders of the world through this revolutionary development in technology. Now, it is almost unimaginable to survive in the modern world without some access to the internet. Such is the importance of the internet that companies are taking advantage of it by finding it necessary to have their own space online through a website and having voip phones instead of the ordinary PSTN system.

According to wikipedia, voip phones have the following features: Caller ID, locally stored and network-based directories, conference and multiparty call, call park, applications like weather report, attendance in school and offices, live news and so on. It really has many features an analog phone doesn’t support, such as e-mail-like IDs for contacts that may be easier to remember than names or phone numbers.

My company hired the services of a voip company and it freed us from the hassle of starting from scratch. They have voip products, services, systems and solutions perfect for us. It really saved us money and time. It’s affordable and they’re definitely reliable. With all honesty, it is the best voip service a company could ever have. I just cannot really believe that for the price I pay monthly, it delivers service beyond our rather high expectations. We can now meet the requirements of our customers better than before and they’re happy about it. I can say that it made our processes efficient.

I highly recommend this voip service which we have been trusting for quite some time now. It is best that we have tried so far (I just have to stress that again and again).

A VDI for efficiency

During our company’s strategic planning, the IT manager recommended that a Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) should be considered by top management. Not really understanding what it is, I searched the internet about it and according to wikipedia, many enterprise-level implements this technology because it allows one to store the “virtualized” desktop on a remote central server, instead of on the local storage of a remote client. The result is that when the users work from their local machine, all of the programs, applications, processes, and data used are kept on the server and run centrally. After reading, I realized that it made sense. So I listened more to my colleagues’ presentation and according to her VDI has 3 modes of operation namely Hosted Virtual Desktop, Centralized virtual desktops and Remote virtual desktops. Among the three, she believes that Hosted Virtual Desktop is the most feasible to implement in our company for a number of reasons that she enumerated. Being in the Finance department, what struck me was her justification that transferring information technology infrastructure to an outsourced model, in this case a Hosted Virtual Desktop Company, can shift accounting for the associated costs from capital expenses to operating expenses. I may not be an IT enthusiast but I think this is one of those recommendation of IT department that I agree with not just for financial reason but more for security and efficiency issues.
